Do you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or unused dental benefits on your insurance plan? If so, and you’ve put off making your dental appointment in 2017, call Milburn Family Dental Office today! If you’re unsure the care you need is a qualified HSA expense or if it is covered under your insurance benefit plan, just give us a call and we will be glad to help you determine coverage for your specific dental issue and solution.
Following is a basic guideline from the IRS regarding the types of dental expenses an HSA will cover, but it is very important to confirm your coverage ahead of time.
“You can include in medical expenses the amounts you pay for the prevention and alleviation of dental disease. Pre-treatment includes the services of a dental hygienist or dentist for such procedures as teeth cleaning, application of sealants, and fluoride treatments to prevent tooth decay. Treatment to alleviate dental disease includes the services of a dentist for procedures such as X-rays, fillings, braces, extractions, dentures, and other dental ailments. You can include in medical expenses the amount you pay for cosmetic surgery if it is necessary to improve a deformity arising from, or directly related to, a congenital abnormality, a personal injury resulting from an accident or trauma, or a disfiguring disease.”
Many times we see dental procedures and treatments such as fillings as a result of tooth decay, crowns for large cavities or a chipped tooth, night guards for grinding, and more considered qualified dental expenses for health savings accounts. Of course, insurance benefits vary, so if you have dental insurance, check your policy to confirm what is covered.
